Conroe High School
Project Overview
Key Project Challenges
- Extremely dense site in certain areas
- 1,450+ trees inventoried and surveyed
Key Project Outcomes
- 23 acres of canopy coverage retained
Project Description
Conroe ISD engaged the Edgeland Group for the design of the new Conroe High School. The school was part of a bond package that was approved by the voters in 2023 to meet the needs of this quickly growing area of the state.
Tree Mann Solutions was hired to inventory the site for potential preservation and credit per the City of Conroe ordinance. The client was able to save time and money by identifying preservation areas during the design phase and allowing the TMS team to focus on those specific areas for the inventory.
The site was extremely dense in certain areas, requiring several days to capture information on a small number of trees — ultimately there were only 3 heritage trees found in these dense areas. In total, the TMS team inventoried and surveyed over 1,450+ trees on the 112-acre site. This equated to roughly 23 acres of canopy coverage that could be preserved in the current design. While the City of Conroe only required a 20% retainage in canopy, the team was able to exceed that requirement by incorporating green space into the project.
